What is the Comprehensive Plan Update and Why is it Required?

Every county and city in the state is required to conduct a periodic update of its comprehensive plan and development regulations. This is known as the Comprehensive Plan Update, and happens every 10 years. To learn more about what is required in the update, please visit the Washington Chamber of Commerce webpage.

Please click here for more information about why planning is required, and what may happen if La Conner is found to be in noncompliance with the Growth Management Act.

What Has Happened So Far?
La Conner has updated its Comprehensive Plan to compile with the required Growth Management Act Periodic Update. While the state will not require an update for another 10 years, the Comprehensive Plan is a living document that undergoes an annual review with the Planning Commission. The Comprehensive Plan can be amended once per year.

How Can I Get Involved?
Review the plan, and document your own thoughts and suggestions. Comprehensive Plan amendment applications can be submitted for free during the month of January. Attend Planning Commission and Town Council meetings to stay informed.
